KISS OF BETRAYAL 3

Continuation of 💋 *Kiss of* *Betrayal* 😔

*Final Episode.*

“You are Mrs.Derinsola Daniels, right?” asked the DPO.

“Yes I am.” She was glad her mouth didn’t let out her racing, fearful heart instead of words.

“Please have your seat,” “do you know this man?”

“Yes, that’s my Brother-in-law.”

“Good. How about this woman?”

“She was my late husband’s Mistress.”

“No, I wasn’t.”

Derinsola stared like a confused pupil faced with Algebra.

“Derinsola, I have hurt you, I don’t know if you can ever forgive me. I and Jerome were secret lovers. Knowing that his brother wanted a male child, he got me to seduce him. After few failed trial, Olaitan fell for the scheme once and no more. Before then, I had taken in for Jerome. As fate would have it, scan revealed I was carrying a male child. Olaitan accepted responsibility. Whatever he sent for the boy's upkeep was splitted 60-40 between me and Jerome, I got the lion share as agreed. But after the Will was read, Jerome proposed renewal of agreement. He claimed since I was allocated part  of Olaitan’s property, he should get the lion share of the upkeep and inheritance allotted to our son. He got angry when I disagreed, and threatened to harm me if I don’t succumb. I told him if he tried anything silly, I would expose our dirty secret. I thought that would deter him, until 2 strange men armed with machete broke into my house. They beat me blue-black. While they carried out their mission, one of them said to me that I should have accepted the newly proposed deal,  and shouldn’t have tried to mess with Jerome Daniels. A smack to the side of my head sent me into oblivion. I awoke on a hospital bed, called for  police officers at once and confessed my crime. Jerome froze when he saw me. This bastard had wanted me dead.”

“That’s Enough,” said the DPO. “Mrs Daniels, you should thank your star this woman is still alive. But for her confession, you could be standing trial by now. From all indication, you were our prime suspect, since a picture of you with the victim was found at the scene of the incidence. In the course of interrogating your brother-in-law, he admitted to sending the armed gang and instructing them to plant the picture. By that, the natural course of our investigation would get us coming after you first. And if brought in for interrogation, he would seize the advantage that you made your suspicion of Miss.Tiwatope known only to him against you, by testifying that he told you not to do anything but leave the matter to the family, and claim you must have gone ahead to still handle things on your own. And since you two are known rivals,” his face shifted from her to Tiwatope and back, “nailing you for the crime would have been easy. His plan was to get you incarcerated and Miss.Tiwatope Six feet under, so he could be chanced to manipulate your children’s entitlements for himself.”
Derinsola was dumbfounded, she stared with utmost disappointment at Jerome who took a hard-boiled stance.

“Madam, it will shock you to also know he  masterminded  the illness that led to your husband’s death, by slipping a slow poison into his drink.”

Derinsola couldn’t stay calm anymore. That moment, her entire being cried out. “But why!? Olaitan was your brother, he put you in-charge of his company those times he was away, why kill your own blood?”

“You should ask the cruel witch you call mother-in-law that. Am I not a son like Olaitan, he was sent abroad to study, while I stayed back home as the family’s errand boy. Why should he be the only one to inherit all father’s properties?  You married him and so became a victim of circumstances, so sad.”

The DPO was pissed by Jerome’s lack of remorse and called for an officer to return him and Tiwatope to custody.
“Madam, please take it easy,” said the DPO to teary and trembling Derinsola, “let’s thank God the plot against you and your family was exposed, I assure you Justice will take its course.”

Derinsola was leaving the station when she was met by Bolatito; who had rushed down on hearing of her brother's arrest. Bolatito was as shocked and blanked about the whole issue as Derinsola, so they both headed to Chief Mrs. Daniels residence for clarification.

On seeing the unfriendly pair together, Chief Mrs. Daniels sensed something was happening. After she was briefed, without hesitation, she let them into the cupboard that housed her skeleton. Bolatito knew her late father was a twin who lost his twin sister and her husband to an auto crash, but she was hearing for the first time that they were survived by a 3years old boy whom her parents adopted. She sometimes wondered at her mother’s cruelty towards Jerome but was never inclined to ask questions, since they were raised as siblings and her late father loved them without disparity.

Since her late husband wasn’t chanced to do a Will before his demise, Chief Mrs. Daniels couldn’t bear to have Jerome share in his properties at the loss of her true and only son, Olaitan.  So she disclosed his true identity to him with documents that proved his adoption. After she ran the company for a while, she handed it over to Olaitan alongside other properties and instructed him  to employ Jerome so he could continue to live off the family.
Bolatito felt faced with a stranger she had known all her life, she stood and left without a word.
Chief Mrs. Daniels apologized to Derinsola for being so unkind to her.

Jerome and Tiwatope were arraigned at the court. Jerome was convicted for murder, attempted murder and  was sentenced to 25years imprisonment, while Tiwatope got 5years for being his accomplice.
Tiwatope and her children forfeited their undeserved inheritance which the family unanimously handed over to Derinsola and her girls. Regardless of her gender, being the first born of the deceased, Bisola was allowed to take over the management of her father’s company.

THE END.
